Species facing extinction. If we fail to remove the oppressions that caused the present situation, the species will be difficult to survive by themselves in the wild. (1) The number of individuals has decreased on the dangerous level in all known local populations. (2) The condition for living has become serious in all known habitats.
Aomiri prefecture Red Data Book 2020 edition

The species has been extinct in Aomori prefecture. They were found breeding in the wild, and some fishers caught them in the Lake Ogawara. It is not clear why they has decreased, but some researchers point out the overfishing.
